March 30, 2013

Another night of excellent seeing!  Lots of things going on with Jupiter.

Oval BA can be seen rising on the left.  Note the 3 small  white spots following oval BA!     There are also 4 white spots on the SSTB.

There is also a white spot at the south polar region.  This polar white spot is bright in Methane band.  Note the white protrusion of the bright south polar area in the methane band image below.   This is the "reddish" spot described by Manos Kardasis.

The SEB looks very busy.   The NEB looks quiet.  There is a  red spot rising on the  left on the NEB.  There is also an interesting 3 white ovals on the NTBn which seems to be causing the dark disturbance on the northern part of the  NTB.

March 29, 2013

Seeing was excellent this evening.  Jupiter is getting smaller and smaller as it recedes from us.

The NNTZ LRS can be seen setting in this image.  There are some intense activity on the NEBs/EZ with complex rift activities.  Note the dark oval on the NEBn.

The SEB is very chaotic especially close to the wake of the GRS.

March 28, 2013

Seeing was okay this evening.

The GRS and Oval BA can be seen in these images.  Oval BA is pulling away from the GRS.    Note the dark band and small white ovals following Oval BA.   Are two white ovals interacting right next to the Oval BA.

Note the outbreak on the NEB.  The NTBn is still dark.

March 25, 2013

Transparency was poor this evening because of thin clouds.

The SEB is very dark.  Note the bright outbreaks on the NEB/EZ border.  The NTBn is very busy.  Note the dark barges and the white spot .

March 24, 2013

Another night of good seeing.

The GRS is setting.  The wake of the GRS is very active.  Io and it's shadow is on the SEB.

The NEB looks quite.  There is a dark cyclonic spot on the NEBn.  The NNTZ LRS is well resolved.  Not the white center with a red ring around it.  The NTB is wide and the northern edge is very active.

March 22, 2013

Seeing was great this evening.  This was suppose to be the boring side of Jupiter. But a lot of things are going one.

There is an interesting bright spot on the NEBs!!  Is this an outbreak  or a anti-cyclonic oval?   It is very bright in IR and Methane band.    The NEBn is very busy with large cyclonic and anti-cyclonic ovals.

Note the little red spot on the NNTZ.  These spot is prominent in Methane band.

The SEB looks very busy and is dark on both edges.

March 16, 2013

Seeing was okay this evening.

Note the white ovals following Oval BA!  Will these ovals merge with Oval BA.  One is already on the walls of Oval BA.  It will be interesting to see what will happen in the coming days. The ice moon Europa is preceding Oval BA.  The GRS can also be seen rising on the left.

The SEB looks very complex.    The NEB looks quiet.  While the NTB is wide with activities at the northern edge.

March 15, 2013

Seeing was  better this evening.

Note the White Oval Z. This oval is bright in Methane band.  There is also two interesting red oval on the NTBn.  This may be cyclonic since it is not bright in Methane band.  There is a small white spot on the NNTZ.  Was this the small red spot seen a few months ago?  This small spot is prominent in Methane band.

The EZn looks very busy.  Note the feature on the SEBn.  Is this the SED?

March 14, 2013

Seeing was a bit unstable today because I wasn't able to cool my OTA long enough.

The GRS has a very strong color.  The halo is prominent. The wake of the GRS is very chaotic.  Note the multiple outbreaks that can be seen in the Methane Band image below.

The NEB looks quiet.  The NTBn is still dark and  active.  Note the NNTZ LRS rising on the upper right.  This spot is bright in Methane band.

March 4, 2013

Seeing was a little better this evening.  The sky was, however, a little hazy which affected transperency.

Oval BA is prominent in these images.  The red ring is well resolved.  Note the white ovals following Oval BA.  Are these ovals about to merge?  The GRS is rising.  Note the bright feature in the SEB preceding the GRS.

Outbreaks seem to be forming in the NEB in the area close to the EZ festoons.   The NTB is calm.

March 3, 2013

Imaging was a bit frustrating this evening.  I had to image through some clouds.  Transparency was poor.

Note the White Oval Z on the NEBn.  The merger of the two white ovals seem to have been over.  Note that the NTBn has some small red ovals lining up.

The SEB is dark and complex.    Note the white oval on the STB.  This feature is prominent in IR.

March 2, 2013

Lots of clouds this evening.  I had to image during breaks in the clouds.  Seeing was a bit unstable.

The GRS is prominent in these images.  The wake of the GRS is complex.

The NNTZ LRS can be seeing rising on the right.  NOte the outbreak forming on the NEB.

February 28, 2013

The sky was finally clear this evening.   Seeing was good.

The NNTZ LRS is prominent in these images.  This oval is very bright in CH4.  The red ring is resolved.  Note the dark spots lining up north of the NTB.

The SEB is very busy because this area is the wake of the GRS.  The bright spot peeking out of the IR image is Europa.

February 22, 2013

I had a short break in the clouds this evening.  Weather had been crummy for weeks.  Seeing and transparency was variable.

Oval BA is prominent in these images.  The white center surrounded by the thick red ring is obvious.  The SEB is very active!  The SEBn is very dark.

There are outbreaks in the NEB associated with the EZ festoons.   The NTB is wide and red.  The NTBn is dark!

February 16, 2013

Transparency was terrible this evening because of thin clouds.

The two dark spots on the NNTB has merged!!  There is only one bigger dark spot  now!

The SEB looks very chaotic.

February 13, 2013

Seeing wasn't very good this evening.  Probably because my OTA needs more cooling.

The GRS and Oval BA are moving further away from each other!    There seems to be a large white oval following BA.  The wake of the GRS looks a bit strange.   Io can be seen following the GRS.

The NEB stil has some rift activity.  While the NTBn is still dark.

February 11, 2013

It was a frustrating session this evening.  Seeing was okay but humidity was 98%!!  It was raining hard early this evening when the sky suddenly cleared.    Dew was on my corrector and I had to remove it after each RGB run.

This area is similar to the area I imaged two days ago.   Two dark spots on the NTrZ seem to be getting closer to each other.  Will the merge?

Other features look more or less the same as two days ago.

February 9, 2013

Seeing was variable this evening.

The SEB features the tail end of the wake of the GRS.   There are complex rift activities in the NEB.     The NNTZ LRS can be seen setting in these images.   Note the dark spots lining up above the NTB.

February 6, 2013

The sky had been cloudy during the last few days.  Seeing and transparency was variable because of thin clouds.

The GRS is setting in this image.  Io's shadow can been seen just north of the GRS.   The wake of the GRS is very chaotic because of outbreaks.  The SEB outbreaks are very bright in CH4.

Note the colorful outbreak in the NEB.  Note the dark barge in the EZ is very bright in CH4.  The NNTZ LRS can also be seen.

January 31, 2013

Conditions were okay this evening.  FInally had some decent seeing despite the variable transparency due to clouds.

The two big white ovals on the NEBn should merge in the coming weeks.  Note the interaction of the EZ festoon with and NEB outbreak.  There are a lot of rift activities in the NEB.

The NTBn looks complex with some white ovals on it.

The SEB looks complex with a complex activity on the SEBn.

January 27, 2013

Weather had been terrible during the last two weeks.   I was able to get a short clearing today.  Just enough for one round of imaging.  Seeing was unstable because I wasn't able to cool my OTA.

Oval BA can be seen at the CM.  It's color is still very strong.  The dark red barge on the SEB is still there right next to the bright feature it has been following for months now.  There seems to be some rifts on the NEB.  The NTBn is dark.

January 5, 2013

Seeing was okay variable today but it improved as Jupiter go higher.

Oval BA is pulling away from the GRS.  It still has a very strong red color. Note the region north of  the Oval BA at the EZs/SEBn area,  the South Equatorial Disturbance (SED) is back!  The SED seems to be interacting with the dark barge and bright area following the barge.  Io can be seen close to the GRS.

The NEB looks quiet.  Some red and white ovals can be seen.   The NTB has some activity at it's northern edge.

January 4, 2013

Seeing was okay this evening.

Note the 2nd NNTZ LRS. The NTB is active in this region.  Note the small red spot and the bright white spot north of the NTB.

The NEB has lot of complex rifts and outbreaks.  The SEB is very dark.

January 1, 2013

Happy New Year!!    After over 5 days of suffering a flu, I am getting better now!   Seeing was good this evening.  That is before the clouds rolled in.

The GRS is setting.   Note the complex wake following the GRS.  There are two prominent outbreak within this wake.

The large dark EZ festoon seem to be interacting  with the dark barge in the NEB.  These features are dark in CH4.   The NNTZ LRS is also prominent  and very bright in CH4.
